European Cruise Line Review - Princess

If you are booking your first European cruise then one of the companies that you are likely considering is Princess Cruise Lines. The reason for this is simple: they are such a massive company and such a recognizable brand worldwide that they, much like Carnival, NCL and Holland America, immediately leap to mind when booking this type of vacation.

How big are they? Well, since they launched the company back in 1965 Princess has grown by leaps and bounds, and now boast 16 ships in their fleet and over 100 itineraries spanning the globe. They offer voyages as short as a single day, and odysseys in excess of 100 days. In short, they are a cruise company that is capable of catering to every traveler, and you would have to be exceptionally fussy to avoid finding a Princess cruise that would match the vacation you have in mind.

Princess’s fleet is truly among the most contemporary in the industry, and the bulk of their ships didn’t enter service since after the turn of the 21st century. Though they do offer small, more exclusive vessels, they are more well known for their massive ocean liners like the Grand Princess, Golden Princess and Star Princess. These 109,000 ton behemoths are capable of carrying a whopping 2,600 passengers each in comfort, luxury and style.

Onboard, the experience is tantamount to staying at a luxury resort with an attached theme park. There are an incredible array of activities and amenities from their innovative Scholarship@Sea program which allows guests to take a variety of classes from cooking to photography to their Movies Under the Stars, where passengers can enjoy the latest feature films shown on a massive LED screen above the outdoor pool. Recently, Princess has also capitalized on the enormous popularity of the Nintendo Wii console, allowing passengers to compete against one another in Wii games on the giant screen.

Dining is an informal affair, and Princess’s Anytime Dining is hugely popular with its passengers, allowing guests more flexibility in their schedule as they can dine anytime between the hours of 5:30 and 10:00.

Princess is one of the most active companies in Europe, and if you are planning a European cruise you can choose between six of their ships. Ultimately, the best part of a Princess cruise vacation is that you know exactly what you are getting before you ever set foot aboard ship. They have been an industry leader for decades for a reason, and there is no shortage of anecdotal evidence from travelers worldwide that have had an amazing experience with the company.
