Norwegian Shore Excursions
If you are taking a Scandinavian cruise then you’ll want to make sure you plan one or more Norwegian shore excursions to really get a feel for the local culture and experience up close the rugged majesty of this spectacular region of Northern Europe.
A popular tour begins in the village of Geiranger. Be prepared to have your breath stolen by the awe-inspiring beauty of the giant waterfalls pouring into the fjord. From there you will take a ferry to Alesund and get a once in a lifetime view from the top of Mount Aksla. Amazingly, all this can be done in a half day, leaving you plenty of time to relax or wander and interact with the local populace.
Want to see a glacier? Take the Glacier Adventure Tour to Svartisen. Just outside Ornes you can arrange to transfer from the ship to a smaller vessel, and take a mini cruise that you will remember for a lifetime. On this six hour tour you will visit Svartisen, Norway’s second largest glacier. After an hour on the boat, admiring the view from the water you will arrive at the Svartisen Tourist Centre where you can ward off the cold with a hot beverage while taking in the amazing view. Then board a bus and travel along the beautiful Helgeland Coast where you can get an up close look at the local communities before meeting up with your ship again in Bodo.
These are but a small sampling of the adventure and rugged natural beauty that a Norwegian shore excursion offers.
