Volga River Cruise - See Russia In Luxury
European river cruises have grown increasingly popular over the past several years, however when it comes to seeing Russia the vast majority of tourists fail to consider this magnificent mode of travel, opting instead to travel by land, with all the associated costs and headaches of booking hotels, eating in expensive restaurants, renting cars, and toting their luggage from place to place. All of these aggravations and much of the cost can be eliminated by taking a Volga river cruise.
Though cruising has always been considered an expensive form of travel, a river tour is actually a very budget-friendly mode of travel, and can actually be significantly cheaper than a comparable land tour with all the expenses mentioned above. Obviously, with every type of vacation there are different cost levels, but don’t automatically dismiss traveling Russia by riverboat because you assume it to be more expensive than the alternative.
So what can you see on your Russian river cruise? Many of the same highlights you’d see if traveling on land are available to you. Visit St. Petersburg, the capital of Russia and see Peter and Paul’s Fortress, the oldest construction in this historical city. You can visit St. Isaac’s Cathedral or take a guided tour of the famous Hermitage Museum. If you want to get out of the city take a tour to the small town of Pushkin, 20 minutes south of St. Petersburg and visit the breathtaking Catherine Palace (also called the Tsar’s Village). These are but a taste of the many wonderful things you can see and do on a shore excursion to St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg is of course the highlight of any Russian vacation, but it is far from the only destination worth visiting. In Kazan City you can visit the awe-inspiring Suyumbike Tower. In Uglich you can visit the historic Church of St. Dmitry on the Blood. And, of course you can’t forget Moscow where sights like Red Square, the Kremlin and the Cathedral of St. Basil still await.
So now that we’ve covered the many things to see and do in Russia what about the ship itself? Though you will spend much of your time engaged in sightseeing and adventure of your various shore excursions you will still be spending a great deal of time on the water.
A Uniworld river cruise between St. Petersburg and Moscow is a journey of luxury, adventure and comfort. This company has been operating for more than 3 decades and has mastered the art of pampering its guests offering such luxuries and amenities as flat screen TVs, Bose music systems, medical facilities, whirlpools and more. All the ships in Uniworld’s fleet have been renovated and are among the most luxurious riverboats in Europe. On a Russian voyage you will be aboard the famous MS Litnivov, a 210 passenger boat with all the luxury of a floating hotel. If you really want to cruise in comfort then splurge on one of the 2 suites, which feature triple the space of a standard cabin.
As far as itineraries go you can choose from either 14 day Waterways of the Czars tour or the slightly longer 16 day Imperial Russia cruise. Both itineraries travel between St. Petersburg and Moscow so you won’t miss out on Russia’s two most magnificent cities, just the sights in between will be different.
As you can see a Volga river cruise is a spectacular way to travel, and should be strongly considered by anyone who wants to see the highlights of the beautiful country of Russia without all the stress that normally goes along with traveling in a foreign country.
